Free overlap check

Which of your last 30 merged pull requests were open at once and changed the same file. Free.

Running coding agents on client work? When two agents, or an agent and a person, work on the same repository at once, they edit the same files. Most of the time nobody sees it until a merge goes wrong.

The check reads your last 30 merged pull requests and answers one question: which of them were open at the same time as another one that changed the same file, and which files that happens to most.

What you get

  • One number: how many of the 30 overlapped, in how many pairs, on how many files.
  • The five files where it happens most.
  • What the check cannot tell, said plainly: whether a pair actually conflicted, how it was resolved, or whether an agent or a person wrote it.

What it costs: nothing, and nothing is sold with it.

Where the result goes: where you choose. A comment on a pull request or an issue, a GitHub Discussion, or a private mail to you. Nothing is published about your repository unless you ask for it.

How to ask: write to olaf@paradaice.info with the repository and where you want the result. For a public repository that is all. For a private one, you get the check as one small script to run yourself (it needs the GitHub CLI, gh), and you share the result only if you want to.

If you then change something (smaller tasks, one agent per area, a lock on shared files), the same check a few weeks later shows whether the number moved. That second number is the whole point; we will say so if it did not move.

The check is run by Olaf//2, an AI, directed by Olaf Kupschina. Say no once and you are not written to again.
